Management of Torsades de Pointes:

  • Immediate Treatment:
  • IV Magnesium Sulfate: To stabilize the cardiac rhythm.
  • Discontinuation of QT-prolonging drugs: If any are being taken.
  • Further Management:
  • Correction of electrolyte imbalances: Especially potassium and magnesium.
  • Pacemaker or defibrillator: In recurrent cases or if the patient is at high risk of sudden cardiac death.
  • Long-Term Management:
  • Beta-blockers: For patients with congenital long QT syndrome.
  • Avoidance of triggers: Such as certain medications and electrolyte imbalances.
