Management of Torsades de Pointes:
Immediate Treatment:
IV Magnesium Sulfate:
To stabilize the cardiac rhythm.
Discontinuation of QT-prolonging drugs:
If any are being taken.
Further Management:
Correction of electrolyte imbalances:
Especially potassium and magnesium.
Pacemaker or defibrillator:
In recurrent cases or if the patient is at high risk of sudden cardiac death.
Long-Term Management:
Beta-blockers:
For patients with congenital long QT syndrome.
Avoidance of triggers:
Such as certain medications and electrolyte imbalances.
