Drug-Induced Lupus

 

Common Symptoms:

. Arthralgia

. Myalgia

. Malar rash

. Pleurisy

 

Laboratory Findings:

i. ANA: Positive in 100%

ii. Anti-dsDNA: Negative

iii. Anti-histone antibodies: Positive in 80-90%

 

Common Causative Drugs:

i. Procainamide (antiarrhythmic)

ii. Hydralazine (vasodilator for HF and HTN)

iii. Less common: Isoniazid (anti-TB), minocycline, phenytoin

 

Management:

. Discontinue the causative drug: Drug-induced lupus typically resolves on its own after stopping the offending medication.
